Minimal Quilted Tapestry
This piece was created in early quarantine. During the first couple of months of sheltering in place I was using fabric remnants and an old stash of threads.
The linen and cotton used on the front and back of this are hand-dyed using turmeric. The ball is created by bundling all of the cuttings and remnant strands of thread....these have shown up in other embroideries and refer to them as "chaos orbs."
Approximately 9" x 5"
Includes decorative tack for hanging, can be hung with either side showing.
more about the work
Sewing is a way to tap into ancient craft practices – moving the needle slowly by hand, through and over the material, in and out, up and down.
With that physicality in mind, the pieces ultimately act as a metaphor for the esoteric missive “As above So below,” providing a safe space between the imagined (a world we want) and the living world (both rewarding and at times, challenging).
