When I make things, I often use a combination of conceptual systems
in tandem with (sometimes messy or dangerous) chance operations.
For example, burning holes in wool to form a night sky star pattern,
submerging fabric in bleach to remove dye, or breaking sheet rock to construct "new" habitats.
Materials are chosen for their accessible, embedded meanings and act as interpreters –
the language of which may vary for each reader/viewer.
The object, project or installation is the “first impression.”
Generosity of interpretation is laid bare when I leave the work, and then new conversations can begin.
