SHADOW (S.epia, H.ot pink, A.quamarine, D.ark Gold, O.chre, W.hite)
acrylic house paint on acetate, overhead projector, shadow, 36" x 72"
LIGHT (L.avender, I.ndigo, G.rey, H.ot Pink, T.aupe)
acrylic house paint on acetate suspended in front of window, natural light during the day, interior lights at night, approx. 9' x 12'
For approximately 5 weeks I participated in a residency hosted by Borderline Art Collective (BAC). I worked in an empty retail space to create large-scale site-specific works that were then installed for one month, alongside 3 BAC artists, and 2 other invited artists. The residency was in collaboration with [working], a project by Problem Library.
Members of BAC had already been creating and installing work in the space, and were exploring ideas of "shadow."
The work I created was informed by the word prompt "shadow" and it's source - light, as well as discussions about architecture, and permanence. I used my Chromatext method, and painted "words" on acetate using calligraphic scribbles in round formations that loosely represented the sun and the moon - a long-time repeated subject for me.
The completed exhibition could be viewed 24/7 on Mission Street through the windows that spanned the space.
